Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao criticized the Telangana Assembly Speaker’s decision to clear MLAs Danam Nagender and Kadiyam Srihari in an anti-defection case. Rao expressed strong disapproval of Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar’s dismissal of disqualification petitions against the two MLAs who switched from BRS to the ruling Congress party.

Rama Rao condemned the Speaker’s clean chit to Nagender, who later contested for Lok Sabha on a Congress party symbol, as a disregard for the people’s mandate. He viewed this decision as detrimental to democratic values and warned that it could set a precedent for more defections, labeling it a dark day in democratic history.

Questioning the Speaker’s ruling, Rao highlighted the potential erosion of public trust in the democratic process. He emphasized that such actions, favoring personal gains over electoral mandates, could have serious implications for democratic principles. Rao asserted that the people of Telangana were closely observing these developments and would respond appropriately in due course.
