Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao, also known as KTR, has written to the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, highlighting the severe shortage of commercial and domestic LPG cylinders. The disruption in LPG supply is impacting hotels, eateries, PG hostels, and small food businesses, potentially leading to closures that would affect workers and students who rely on these services. To tackle this crisis, KTR proposed practical measures to the Central government, including a tiered LPG allocation system and the creation of a real-time public dashboard for transparent information on LPG cylinder availability.
KTR also recommended a temporary price freeze on commercial LPG cylinders to ease the financial burden on small businesses during the shortage. He emphasized the need for strict measures against black marketing of LPG cylinders meant for domestic use but diverted for commercial purposes at higher prices. Additionally, KTR requested special protection for PG hostels in IT corridor areas to ensure uninterrupted LPG supply for the students and employees residing there. Gas-based crematoriums were also highlighted as essential services that should not face disruptions due to the LPG cylinder shortage, as this could impact the livelihoods of daily wage workers in the food sector. Urging immediate action from the Union government, KTR emphasized the critical need to restore LPG supplies and safeguard essential services nationwide.
