Actor-politician Kamal Haasan has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to organize a national summit involving all Chief Ministers to address the economic repercussions of the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict. Haasan emphasized the need for a coordinated strategy to shield ordinary citizens from the crisis’s impact on India’s economy and households. He supported PM Modi’s plea for energy conservation, stressing the importance of prioritizing national duty over political considerations during this challenging period.
Haasan, in a video message, expressed his worries about the escalating global crisis and its adverse effects on the country. He highlighted the disruption in sea trade routes, leading to increased prices of essential commodities like oil and fertilizers. Haasan noted that approximately 60 nations have implemented energy-saving measures in response to the conflict, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
Referring to PM Modi’s recent call for fuel-saving initiatives, Haasan commended the Prime Minister’s proactive stance on energy conservation. He urged for a collaborative effort where governments and citizens work together to mitigate the crisis’s impact. Haasan proposed immediate actions to alleviate inflationary pressures, suggesting reductions in state taxes on petrol and diesel, as well as lowering metro and train fares to encourage public transportation usage.
The actor emphasized the significance of every energy unit saved in securing India’s future and protecting the most vulnerable segments of society from inflation. Haasan cautioned that the geopolitical turmoil would affect all strata of society but stressed the importance of unified action to strengthen India’s resilience. Drawing parallels with historical crises, he highlighted the nation’s tradition of solidarity during challenging times and urged citizens to contribute collectively towards overcoming the current predicament.
