Karnataka has achieved a historic milestone with a pass percentage of 94.1% in the SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) Examination-1 for Class 10 this year. This marks a significant increase in the overall pass percentage, with girls surpassing boys in the board exams. Notably, the state government reduced the minimum passing marks from 35% to 33%.
Authorities conducted the SSLC Exam-1 from March 18 to April 2, with a total of 7,24,794 students passing the examination, leading to the impressive 94.1% pass percentage compared to 80.04% in the previous year. Among the 7,75,999 regular fresh students who registered, 7,70,209 appeared for the exams, resulting in a high attendance rate of 99.2%.
In terms of gender performance, girls outshone boys in the board exams, achieving a pass percentage of 96.18% compared to boys’ 91.94%. The pass percentage among regular fresh students this year saw a notable increase of 14.06 percentage points compared to the combined results of all three exams last year.
Rural students demonstrated higher performance compared to urban students, with a pass percentage of 94.80% for rural students and 93.2% for urban students. Moreover, government schools showed significant improvement, recording a 16.8 percentage point increase in pass percentage from the previous year.
The individual student performance also saw a rise, with around 66.5% of students scoring 60% and above. Additionally, 1,532 students benefitted from the reduction in the minimum passing marks. Karnataka Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa congratulated officials, students, and parents for this achievement and highlighted the collaborative efforts that led to these results.
The results, which were communicated to students and parents via SMS and WhatsApp, showcased a balanced performance across all student categories this year. Notably, students from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and the general category achieved pass percentages of 92.4%, 93.17%, and 95.35% respectively.
