Referring to the decreasing water levels at the KRS reservoir, the Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s Congress government of secretly releasing water to Tamil Nadu. BJP leader R. Ashoka claimed that this action is affecting the water levels in the reservoir, impacting farmers in various regions who rely on this water supply.
Ashoka criticized the government for not consulting farmers earlier regarding the water release to Tamil Nadu, emphasizing the need for an all-party meeting during such a critical water shortage. He questioned CM Shivakumar’s leadership, alleging a lack of decisive action and failure to address the issue effectively. The BJP leader highlighted the disparity between the reservoir’s water capacity and the current water levels, indicating an excessive outflow to Tamil Nadu.
Ashoka further demanded the cancellation of the Bidadi Township project to protect farmers’ land and criticized the government for its environmental policies. He accused the Congress of damaging the environment through contradictory actions and pledged to oppose land acquisitions for development projects vigorously.
