The Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused the state of harboring a thriving drug mafia and blamed the Congress-led government for aiding its operations. Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy demanded Home Minister G. Parameshwara’s resignation, citing incompetence in managing the Home Department.
Narayanaswamy claimed that drug mafias had expanded their activities with government support, labeling the administration as a “drug government.” He urged the Home Minister to step down if unable to address the situation effectively. The BJP leader released a poster at a press conference with a message calling for the resignation of any minister claiming ignorance.
Alleging a collapse of law and order in Karnataka, Narayanaswamy criticized the government for failing to curb crimes, including rape and murders. He raised suspicions of government involvement in the drug trade and accused the administration of neglecting to arrest drug peddlers. Narayanaswamy also highlighted the conversion of Karnataka into a hub for drug sales, impacting students’ safety and education.
Narayanaswamy proposed transforming the Anti-Naxal Force into an Anti-Drugs Force to dismantle the drug network completely. He accused the Congress government of causing significant harm to the state and called on the Chief Minister to take immediate action. The BJP leader emphasized the need for accountability, suggesting either the Chief Minister or the Home Minister should resign in response to the crisis.
