The Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party criticized the ruling Congress for organizing a convention in Tumakuru on May 19 to mark three years in power. The BJP accused the Congress government of holding celebrations while farmers in the state faced crop losses and financial difficulties. Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka alleged that the government’s promises had turned into failures, leading to farmer suicides and crop damage due to natural disasters.
Ashoka claimed that the state government neglected farmers over the past three years, failing to allocate sufficient funds for agriculture despite manifesto pledges. He highlighted extensive crop damage in various districts, including grapes, bananas, watermelons, coconuts, mangoes, arecanuts, and tomatoes. The opposition leader criticized the lack of official visits to affected areas and delays in compensation processes, citing instances of unfulfilled promises from the government.
The BJP leader also criticized the government’s spending on public events, accusing it of misusing public funds for conventions and celebrations. Ashoka pointed out discrepancies in disaster relief allocations and criticized the expenditure on recent conventions. He alleged that taxpayer money was being misused for party events, questioning the transparency of government spending.
