Karnataka BJP President and MLA, B.Y. Vijayendra, criticized the Karnataka government for allegedly stalling elections to local bodies like the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and zilla panchayats. He claimed that the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was being used as an excuse to postpone the civic polls. Vijayendra highlighted that the government’s request for an extension from the Supreme Court until December 31 to conduct GBA elections was indicative of its reluctance to hold these polls.
Addressing the media, Vijayendra expressed doubts about the government’s sincerity in conducting local body elections. He accused the government of using the SIR process as a ploy to delay the GBA elections further. Vijayendra emphasized the importance of timely elections for local governance and criticized the government’s alleged lack of commitment to this democratic process.
Vijayendra also raised concerns about the government’s delay in expanding the Cabinet, attributing it to internal political issues. He advocated for proper planning and arrangements before evicting street vendors, emphasizing their economic significance and the need to safeguard their interests. Additionally, he criticized the state administration for the backlog of official files, calling for improved governance and attention to farmers’ welfare.
