Karnataka BJP President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra criticized the Congress-led state government for its handling of internal reservation for Scheduled Castes. He accused the government of delaying the implementation of reservation distribution for nearly two-and-a-half years, calling it a betrayal of the community. Vijayendra highlighted that the government has categorized Scheduled Castes into A, B, and C groups, with alleged reductions in allocations within categories.
The previous BJP government, under Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s leadership, had increased reservation for Scheduled Castes from 15 to 17 percent. However, Vijayendra claimed that the current Congress government has reduced allocations within categories, leading to dissatisfaction among various communities in the state. He specifically mentioned reductions in the quotas for Category A and Category B, as well as the merger of certain communities into a single Category C with reduced reservation share.
Vijayendra further criticized the state government for not filling vacant government posts, accusing it of wasting time on internal reservation matters. He warned that senior Congress leaders might face political consequences in the future for the perceived injustice towards Scheduled Castes in Karnataka. The State BJP President urged the government to legally fight to maintain the 17 percent reservation implemented by the previous BJP government to avoid potential political repercussions in South India.
