The Karnataka BJP has raised concerns about the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, staying quiet about the alleged Rs 2,500 crore excise scam in the state. R. Ashoka, the Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, criticized Rahul Gandhi for his silence on the issue. Ashoka highlighted serious allegations against the Excise Department’s operations in Karnataka and questioned why Rahul Gandhi has not addressed them.
Serious allegations have emerged regarding the functioning of the Excise Department in Karnataka, with the BJP demanding an investigation. The Congress-led government rejected the demand, and R. Ashoka pointed out that Rahul Gandhi, who often speaks out on national issues, has remained silent on this matter. The BJP has been targeting the Congress-led government over the alleged excise department scam, calling for action against Minister for Excise R.B. Thimmapur.
R. Ashoka, during a session in the Assembly, accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of maintaining silence despite evidence of a significant scam amounting to Rs 2,500 crore in illegal collections from liquor shops. The excise department scandal, which led to the arrest of three officers, including a Deputy Commissioner, has now implicated Minister R.B. Thimmapur, causing embarrassment to the government. The BJP has lodged a complaint against Minister Thimmapur with the Karnataka Lokayukta, presenting audio clips as evidence of misconduct.
