The Karnataka BJP has called for Speaker U.T. Khader to make a decision on a letter they submitted concerning the alleged disrespect shown by Congress legislators towards Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot. The BJP has also urged the Speaker to suspend Congress members, including Law Minister H.K. Patil, over this issue. Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka raised the matter in the Assembly, emphasizing the lack of respect shown to the Governor.
Ashoka highlighted that the Governor was not accorded the same respect upon exiting as when he arrived, a claim disputed by Speaker Khader. Ashoka insisted that there is evidence, including video footage, supporting their allegations of disrespect towards the Governor. Former Deputy Chief Minister C.N. Ashwath Narayan stressed the importance of upholding the rules and demanded immediate action from the Speaker.
The BJP members have accused ruling party legislators of obstructing the Governor during his address to the joint session. They have called for strict action against those involved in the alleged disrespect. The issue has sparked a debate on the conduct expected during the Governor’s address and the importance of maintaining the dignity of the House.
