The Karnataka Budget 2026–27 focuses on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to advance technology, foster inclusive growth, and enhance governance, as stated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during the budget presentation. Highlighting Karnataka’s rise in the global technology landscape, the Chief Minister noted the state’s progress to the 14th position in the global start-up ecosystem, with over 18,000 active start-ups and Bengaluru ranking fifth globally in AI and Big Data.
Acknowledging the transformative impact of AI on global economies, the government outlined a comprehensive strategy to incorporate AI technologies across various sectors. In agriculture, the government plans to enhance the Farmer Call Centre with AI technology, providing farmers with real-time access to crucial information for better decision-making.
In education, Karnataka will introduce an AI-based self-learning digital tutor in collaboration with IIT Dharwad, benefiting over 12.28 lakh students in Classes 8 to 12. Additionally, an AI-based facial recognition attendance system will be implemented in educational institutions to ensure accurate attendance monitoring and enhance transparency.
To democratize access to advanced technology education, the government will establish AI Data Labs in 50 government colleges in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, aiming to equip rural youth with AI skills. Furthermore, new courses focusing on AI, Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, and Automation Engineering will be introduced in government institutions to prepare students for future industries.
The government also plans to provide advanced AI training to 250 engineering graduates from Backward Classes at premier institutions like IITs, NITs, and IIMs to enhance their technical capabilities and boost employment opportunities. AI will be integrated into citizen services through an AI-based grievance redressal platform and the establishment of AI Centres of Excellence to drive research and innovation.
The government’s initiatives under the Karnataka Budget 2026–27 aim to empower citizens, create opportunities, and establish a technologically advanced state that benefits various sectors, including farmers, students, and entrepreneurs.
