Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar stated that the government will consider the request for a farm loan waiver, acknowledging the challenges involved. He revealed plans to fill 72,000 vacancies within six months across various departments and introduced initiatives to enhance employment opportunities, rural education, and revenue administration.
During a press conference following the Kalaburagi Divisional Progress Review Meeting, the chief minister emphasized the government’s focus on balanced regional development and reducing rural-to-urban migration by creating jobs in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. Responding to farmers’ calls for a loan waiver, Shivakumar recognized the demand but highlighted the complexities associated with such a decision.
The government has initiated the recruitment process to address staff shortages in departments like Agriculture, Home, Revenue, Education, and Rural Development. Additionally, efforts are underway to promote industrial growth in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities to foster local employment and deter migration to urban areas. Measures include providing incentives for industries to invest in cities like Kalaburagi and establishing CSR-funded schools at the gram panchayat level to enhance rural education quality.
Shivakumar also announced the launch of the ‘Yuva Setu’ program to facilitate private sector recruitment through a skill-based employment exchange. The government aims to encourage industries to prioritize local candidates while maintaining a hands-off approach in the recruitment process. Furthermore, reforms in the Revenue Department aim to streamline services, resolve land record issues, and ensure efficient delivery of property-related documents to eligible beneficiaries.
