Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, a prominent Congress leader, has resigned from his position, marking the conclusion of his term as the state’s longest-serving Chief Minister. The resignation follows weeks of political speculation and drama regarding a potential leadership change in Karnataka. Siddaramaiah submitted his resignation to the Governor’s Secretary in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and other key party members.
In a joint press conference in Bengaluru with Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar and Home Minister G. Parameshwara, Siddaramaiah confirmed his resignation, stating that he had submitted his resignation letter to the Governor’s Secretary. He mentioned that upon the high command’s directive, he decided to step down from his role as Chief Minister. Siddaramaiah, aged 78, now joins a select group of Karnataka politicians who have held the Chief Minister’s position more than once.
Born in 1947 in Siddaramanahundi village, Mysuru district, Siddaramaiah’s journey from humble beginnings to a significant political figure in Karnataka is notable. Despite his father’s advice against trusting people in politics, Siddaramaiah ventured into the political arena successfully, contesting and winning multiple elections. His tenure includes presenting 17 state budgets and implementing various welfare and social justice initiatives during his political career.
Siddaramaiah’s resignation marks a significant transition in Karnataka’s political landscape, as his supporters reflect on his impactful and transformative legacy in the state’s political history.
