Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar recently revealed a series of significant welfare and development plans. These include free bus passes for all students, recruitment for 56,000 government positions, and the establishment of a private employment exchange system. Additionally, the state will witness the formation of 10,000 youth associations and various other initiatives.
After presiding over his first Cabinet meeting, Shivakumar announced these measures at Vidhana Soudha. He emphasized that these steps mark the beginning of a “new youth era” in Karnataka. The government’s focus is on addressing the needs of farmers, laborers, students, and the youth.
Shivakumar stressed the importance of implementation over mere promises. He highlighted the government’s commitment to prioritizing farmers’ concerns and seeking advice from agricultural experts. The aim is to prevent rural-urban migration and change perceptions about agriculture and related sectors.
In a significant move, the government will provide free bus passes to students statewide. Responding to male students’ queries about gender-specific benefits, the decision aims to ensure equal access. Moreover, plans are in place to fill the vacant government positions and establish a private employment exchange to link trained youth with private employers.
The Chief Minister’s vision includes enhancing Kannadigas’ participation in the private sector. The government plans to introduce reservations or preferences after consulting stakeholders. A detailed framework for this initiative will be developed within a month. The government also announced the creation of 10,000 youth associations, aiming to promote sports, culture, leadership, and social harmony among the youth.
