Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar stated that farmers opposing the Bidadi township project would receive backing without harassment. He mentioned that the Cabinet expansion is anticipated to occur the following week. Shivakumar emphasized the government’s commitment to the protesting farmers, assuring no undue pressure would be imposed on them.
The Chief Minister advocated for a public-private partnership model in school education, urging top private schools in urban areas to assist government schools facing teacher shortages. He clarified that the initiative would involve only select private schools meeting specific standards, not all. Shivakumar highlighted the importance of providing quality education to rural children without them having to migrate to cities.
Shivakumar criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) issue, alleging that the previous BJP government had appointed the KPSC Chairman. He affirmed the Congress government’s support for democratic protests and pledged a thorough investigation into the allegations. Shivakumar also addressed the drought-like conditions in Karnataka, emphasizing the need to ensure adequate drinking water supply in affected areas.
The Chief Minister disclosed plans to attend a condolence meeting in memory of the late former Minister D. Sudhakar in Chitradurga on Sunday. He expressed concerns over the escalating drought conditions in most parts of Karnataka and stressed the importance of addressing the water scarcity issue promptly.
