Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar stressed the importance of a non-politicized Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He assured full government support to the Election Commission of India to safeguard every eligible voter’s right to vote. Shivakumar highlighted the link between retaining voting rights and receiving government benefits, urging citizens to utilize help desks set up for the ongoing revision.
The State Chief Electoral Officer has addressed concerns regarding the revision process and emphasized the government’s collaboration with the Election Commission. Shivakumar reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that all eligible citizens can exercise their voting rights without hindrance. He instructed officials to facilitate the distribution of application forms and document assistance through Booth Level Officers (BLOs) visiting households multiple times.
Emphasizing the apolitical nature of the revision process, Shivakumar underlined the government’s duty to protect voting rights. He called for the establishment of help desks in every ward to aid citizens in the revision process. The Chief Minister emphasized the accountability of government officials in serving the people daily and warned against any lapses in duty, stating that discipline is fundamental to good governance.
Shivakumar directed officials to maintain proximity to citizens to address grievances promptly and minimize bureaucratic hurdles. He mandated a thorough audit of government land to ensure accurate records and announced an upcoming initiative to provide house sites to landless poor families. The Chief Minister also underscored the importance of officials residing within their respective jurisdictions for effective governance.
