Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the commencement of the construction of an international-standard cricket stadium in Suryanagar, Bengaluru. This initiative aims to enhance sports, tourism, employment opportunities, and economic growth in the region. The stadium is projected to be the second-largest in India, following a similar facility in Gujarat.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the stadium’s development would contribute to boosting tourism, uplifting the local economy, and fostering job creation in nearby areas. Notably, the project will be funded solely by the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) without financial aid from the state government. Siddaramaiah mentioned that KHB anticipates generating approximately Rs 20,000 crore through the sale of its vacant residential plots.
Furthermore, the event included the unveiling of various housing and infrastructure projects, such as the launch of the “Namma Mane” housing scheme and the foundation stone laying for residential complexes. Siddaramaiah praised the Housing Department and KHB for diversifying their focus from housing construction to building an 80,000-seat international stadium, marking a significant milestone in the state’s development agenda.
The Chief Minister also disclosed the approval for constructing essential connecting roads in Jigani hobli to support the region’s progress. Emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing affordable housing, Siddaramaiah highlighted the distribution of over three lakh houses and residential sites across Karnataka. Through these initiatives, he envisions comprehensive advancement in the realms of sports, tourism, employment, and economic development.
