Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar expressed sorrow over the demise of seven migrant workers from Bihar and North Karnataka in a tragic boulder collapse at a stone crusher unit in Madapattana, Bengaluru South taluk.
The incident, which occurred early in the morning at the Kaveri Crusher unit in Madapatna village, resulted in the loss of seven lives, with several others injured and fears of more workers being trapped under debris.
Chief Minister Shivakumar extended prayers for the departed souls, strength for their families, and a speedy recovery for the injured. He emphasized the importance of ensuring worker safety in stone quarries and vowed to take action against violators of safety regulations.
Local MLA S.T. Somashekar attributed the accident to illegal quarrying practices and demanded accountability from various departments, including Mines and Geology, Forest, Police, and the Pollution Control Board. He highlighted concerns over previous incidents and urged strict enforcement against illegal activities.
Somashekar revealed details of the tragic event, stating that out of the ten workers present at the quarry during the accident, seven lost their lives instantly. He alleged collusion between officials and quarry operators, emphasizing the need for justice for the victims and their families.
State Deputy Minister G. Parameshwara pledged to investigate the incident thoroughly and take appropriate action against illegal quarrying sites, emphasizing the importance of verifying facts and enforcing regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future.
