Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has submitted his resignation, leaving the decision on the next Chief Minister to the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting and the party high command. During a press conference with Deputy CM Shivakumar and Home Minister G. Parameshwara, Siddaramaiah expressed gratitude to his colleagues for their support.
Deputy CM Shivakumar declined to comment on the next CM’s identity when questioned by the media. Siddaramaiah disclosed that he turned down an offer for a role in national politics, preferring to continue serving the people of Karnataka. He emphasized that his resignation was voluntary and not enforced by the Congress leadership.
Siddaramaiah, reflecting on his political journey, highlighted his commitment to social justice and equality, influenced by the ideologies of Buddha, Basavanna, Ambedkar, and Gandhi. He praised his government’s efforts in implementing welfare measures and manifesto promises, despite facing criticism from the opposition regarding the state’s financial situation.
Defending his government’s economic policies, Siddaramaiah cited Karnataka’s strong economic indicators, including per capita income and GSDP growth surpassing national averages. He refuted claims of excessive borrowing, stating that the state’s fiscal deficit and debt levels were within permissible limits, while attributing the current revenue deficit to the previous BJP government and the Centre.
