The Karnataka State Cyber Command, in collaboration with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), has executed a significant operation against illegal online betting activities in the country. Nearly 8,750 digital platforms associated with illegal betting, including websites, mobile apps, mirror domains, and cloned URLs, were targeted in this operation. Specialized cyber teams, acting on credible intelligence, uncovered organized groups running illegal cricket betting platforms using various tactics to evade detection.
The investigation led to the registration of a case under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. It was revealed that thousands of individuals nationwide suffered financial losses, data breaches, mental harassment, and debt-related distress due to these illicit betting networks. Authorities highlighted that vulnerable individuals had reportedly lost their life savings through credit-based betting systems operated by these syndicates.
The crackdown disrupted a significant portion of the illegal online betting ecosystem, preventing further financial losses to the public. The ongoing investigation is now focusing on tracking the financial flows through these platforms and identifying the individuals and groups behind the illegal networks. Legal actions under pertinent laws are being pursued to address the issue and ensure cyber safety for citizens.
