Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara commended the state for its exemplary Panchayat Raj system during the inauguration of a workshop for Gram Panchayat Administrators and Development Officers in Tumakuru. Emphasizing the need for Gram Panchayats to prioritize equality, peace, and efficient resource management, he urged officials to ensure transparency in fund utilization and non-discriminatory development projects. Parameshwara highlighted the significance of financial audits and credited the Panchayat Raj concept to Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of Gram Swaraj.
Parameshwara lauded the successful implementation of the three-tier Panchayat system in Karnataka, established through the 1993 Constitutional Amendment and the 1994 Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act. He mentioned the digitization of 1.44 crore Revenue Department records in e-Khajane and acknowledged the enduring impact of former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna’s initiatives. Additionally, he referenced Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s recent announcement regarding upcoming Panchayat elections in Kalaburagi.
Discussing the Gruha Lakshmi scheme aimed at women’s empowerment, Parameshwara highlighted its recognition by the World Bank and noted its adoption in 14 states nationwide. He praised the collaborative efforts of government officials and staff in successfully executing programs in Tumakuru, attributing the district’s success to former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s frequent visits and the collective dedication of all stakeholders. The event was attended by various officials including State government’s Special Representative in Delhi T.B. Jayachandra and Deputy Commissioner Shubha Kalyan.
