Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar clarified that the recent action taken against two minority leaders of his party was not personal but based on party directives from Delhi. He emphasized the necessity of following party guidance when dealing with such matters, highlighting the importance of maintaining party discipline.
Responding to concerns about the impact on the minority community, Shivakumar reiterated the Congress party’s commitment to serving various marginalized groups. Addressing speculations of discord with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, he dismissed the notion of factions within the party, emphasizing unity among all legislators under the Congress banner.
The suspension of Member of the Legislative Council Abdul Jabbar from the party’s primary membership was confirmed by Shivakumar, citing anti-party activities during a recent by-election. Abdul Jabbar, who led the state party’s Minority Wing, had resigned from his post, leading to the dissolution of the wing by the Deputy Chief Minister.
Expressing discontent over the disciplinary actions, leaders from the Muslim community criticized the party for its handling of the situation, alleging bias and cautioning the Congress leadership about potential repercussions.
