Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar addressed rumors of a leadership change in the state, questioning the motives behind former Cooperation Minister K.N. Rajanna’s push to replace Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Rajanna, a close associate of Siddaramaiah, advocated for a Dalit Chief Minister if leadership changes occur in Karnataka. Notably, G. Parameshwara is a key Dalit leader in the state.
Shivakumar responded to media queries regarding Rajanna’s suggestion that Home Minister G. Parameshwara should assume the Chief Minister role in case of a leadership transition. He sarcastically questioned Rajanna’s stance on changing the Chief Minister, emphasizing the importance of continuity. Shivakumar distanced himself from any calls for a leadership change, urging reporters to clarify with Rajanna directly.
Amidst discussions on Cabinet expansion and demands for ministerial posts, Shivakumar reiterated the Chief Minister’s commitment to the expansion. Refusing to comment on unresolved issues involving the Apex Bank and the Karnataka Milk Federation, Shivakumar redirected inquiries to the Chief Minister for clarification. Additionally, discussions at Minister K.J. George’s residence centered on state politics and party strengthening, rather than leadership positions.
Regarding potential political compensation for his efforts, Shivakumar dismissed claims of seeking rewards, emphasizing his dedication to the party without expectations. When asked about a possible meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Shivakumar stated he would await Gandhi’s call before traveling to Delhi. On the upcoming Greater Bengaluru Authority elections, Shivakumar highlighted the Supreme Court’s directive for elections to be conducted before August 30, ensuring timely completion after consultations with officials.
In response to the Bowring Hospital compound wall collapse and subsequent recommendations for suspensions, Shivakumar clarified that the hospital falls under the Public Works Department’s jurisdiction. Noting the involvement of soil dumping in the wall collapse, he pledged to address the issue with the Public Works Department Minister and the Chief Minister. Denying reports of significant clashes among Youth Congress office-bearers, Shivakumar warned of strict action against any displays of indiscipline.
