Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced that Karnataka MPs will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Jal Shakti Minister with an all-party delegation post the completion of Assembly elections in various states. The meeting, held in New Delhi, aimed to address irrigation issues in Karnataka, focusing on projects like Mahadayi, Krishna, Tungabhadra, and Bhadra, as well as reviewing the status of irrigation schemes.
Shivakumar mentioned the importance of seeking time to meet the Prime Minister and the concerned ministers, as suggested by the MPs present. The decision to postpone the meeting to a later date was made to accommodate the request, considering the ongoing elections in some states. The Deputy CM emphasized the need for unity and collaboration among all parties for the state’s welfare.
MPs highlighted the significance of working together for the state’s benefit, expressing their commitment to collective efforts. Shivakumar also discussed the progress on the Upper Krishna Project (UKP-3), emphasizing the commencement of land acquisition and the allocation of funds in the Budget for this historic decision. The government’s approach to the Cauvery issue was stated to align with the Supreme Court’s directives.
The meeting, attended by 24 MPs, involved discussions with Union Ministers and former leaders, focusing on advancing irrigation projects and seeking support. Shivakumar expressed gratitude to all MPs for their participation and support, emphasizing the government’s dedication to resolving irrigation-related issues. The Deputy CM assured that the government would proceed with pending projects, including the Yettinahole project, after awaiting environmental clearances.
