In the midst of a leadership dispute in Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar highlighted the importance of unity within the Congress party. He likened his relationship with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to “milk and honey,” emphasizing harmony. Shivakumar commended Siddaramaiah for addressing phone tapping accusations by opposition leaders, expressing confidence in their bond.
Shivakumar clarified that discussions about the Chief Minister’s position have not taken place yet. He announced plans for a celebratory dinner on March 10 to mark his six-year tenure as Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president. Acknowledging the need for new leadership, he indicated a shift in the party’s leadership structure.
Responding to allegations of phone tapping by Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Shivakumar reaffirmed his commitment to upholding party unity. He questioned the narrative surrounding leadership changes and cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rise to power without prior state-level experience. Additionally, Shivakumar mentioned plans to consult with the Chief Minister regarding a potential change in the Legislative Council Chairman.

He denounced attempts by opposition figures to sow discord between him and Shivakumar, emphasizing their unwavering allegiance to the party’s leadership. Despite external pressures, Siddaramaiah affirmed the enduring strength of their relationship and loyalty to the party’s central command.
