Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress President, D.K. Shivakumar, hinted at a potential merger between the Janata Dal (Secular) party and the BJP. This speculation arose from the political stance of H.D. Kumaraswamy, the Union Minister of Large Industries and Steel. Shivakumar expressed that such a merger could benefit their party by allowing a more direct confrontation with the BJP.
Shivakumar made these remarks while welcoming JD(S) leader Govindaraj into the Congress party at the KPCC office. He emphasized the importance of unity within the Congress and highlighted the significance of aligning with like-minded individuals for a stronger political front.
The Deputy CM stressed the secular ideology of the Congress and the need for clarity in political affiliations. He encouraged early submission of applications for the upcoming Bengaluru civic elections to facilitate a smooth selection process. Shivakumar also noted the positive feedback received from BJP leaders regarding the governance efforts of the Congress-led government in Bengaluru.
Referring to the division of Bengaluru into five municipal corporations, Shivakumar underscored the commitment of the Congress to inclusive governance. He urged aspiring candidates to refrain from last-minute applications and emphasized the importance of loyalty to the party.
