Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar affirmed his commitment to proceeding with the Bengaluru tunnel project, despite facing resistance from the BJP and JD (S). Speaking at a Christmas celebration event in Bengaluru, organized by the Baldwin Methodist Education Society, Shivakumar emphasized the necessity of the tunnel road project due to the city’s increasing population and vehicle numbers. He assured that regardless of opposition, he would ensure the project’s implementation, emphasizing his focus on public welfare over personal interests.
The Karnataka Cabinet recently greenlit the construction of a twin-tunnel road and an elevated corridor between the Hebbal flyover and Mekhri Circle, aimed at managing local traffic flow in the congested area leading to the Bengaluru airport, with a budget of Rs 2,215 crore.
Shivakumar praised Bengaluru’s potential and cultural richness, recalling a past encounter with a U.S. ambassador who lauded the city’s unique culture and historical significance. The Deputy CM highlighted the importance of seizing opportunities for success and underscored the city’s communal harmony, exemplified by the united Christmas celebration where people of different backgrounds came together.
In his address, Shivakumar also touched upon the impact of technological advancements like artificial intelligence on daily life and shared anecdotes from his experiences, including a memorable birthday celebration in Paris that emphasized the value of lighting lamps symbolically.
The event was attended by Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh and Bishop Anil Kumar John Servand.
