Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Minister K.H. Muniyappa highlighted a shortage of commercial LPG cylinders in the state, urging hotel owners and other users to cooperate until fresh supplies arrive. Presently, due to restrictions and supply challenges, only a limited number of cylinders can be provided to hotels, restaurants, industries, and dhabas. The state requires about 40,000 commercial LPG cylinders daily, but currently, only around 1,000 can be distributed to hotels.
Muniyappa mentioned that the situation is expected to improve once 16 ships carrying LPG, currently in queue in Iran, arrive in the country. He emphasized the need for stakeholders to wait for a week, assuring that normalcy will be restored. The minister also suggested temporary adoption of alternative methods like electric cooking systems by hotel owners to manage the crisis.
Another meeting with stakeholders is scheduled for the upcoming Monday to reassess the situation. Muniyappa clarified that there is no shortage of domestic LPG cylinders in Karnataka, with over three lakh cylinders used daily in the state without disruption. The government, in collaboration with oil companies, is prioritizing distribution to essential sectors, ensuring supply to educational institutions, hospitals, and other critical establishments.
