The Karnataka government, under the Congress administration, has approved a Rs 600 crore plan for the next two years to enhance development in minority colonies. Additionally, an extra Rs 20 crore has been allocated for the construction of the Belagavi Deputy Commissioner’s office building. Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs H.K. Patil revealed these decisions after a recent Cabinet meeting.
The move is perceived as an effort to address discontent within the minority community towards the Congress party, particularly following the party’s refusal to nominate a Muslim candidate in the Davanagere South bypoll. Minister Patil dismissed claims of sudden planning, stating that the process has been ongoing for some time and is now being implemented to counter such allegations.
Furthermore, the government has sanctioned funds to support education for the children of construction workers. Each child of registered construction workers will receive kits valued at around Rs 8,600, including study materials and school textbooks. This initiative, amounting to approximately Rs 115.84 crore, aims to promote educational opportunities for these children.
The Cabinet has also greenlit various infrastructure projects, including discussions on the Hyderabad–Bengaluru high-speed rail project to enhance transport connectivity. Additionally, an annual subsidy of Rs 28.7 crore has been approved to boost air services between Bidar–Bengaluru and Kalaburagi–Bengaluru. Notably, administrative approval has been granted for the GBA Bidadi Township project with a significant allocation of Rs 18,133 crore.
