The Karnataka government, led by the Congress, has encouraged officials to wear khadi to commemorate the 77th Republic Day celebrated on January 26. State Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh emphasized that khadi represents the nation’s dignity and pride, with weavers now creating modern designs. This initiative aims to strengthen the rural economy by supporting thousands of spinners and weavers.

On the first Saturday of every month, officers and employees of various state entities are requested to wear khadi voluntarily. This move intends to connect public service with India’s freedom struggle, fostering respect for indigenous products and promoting national spirit. The government order includes details of 176 khadi associations and institutions across all districts in Karnataka.

The state government believes that this effort will instill values like unity, self-respect, and social responsibility among government officials. The decision has garnered positive feedback from government employees and society in Karnataka, benefiting both the weaver’s community and government-owned khadi production centers.
