The Governor of Karnataka, Thaawarchand Gehlot, has accepted the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and dissolved the Council of Ministers led by him. Siddaramaiah submitted his resignation on May 28, prompting the Governor to take action under Article 164(1) of the Constitution of India. Consequently, the Council of Ministers under Siddaramaiah’s leadership has been dissolved.
In response to Siddaramaiah’s resignation, the Governor has appointed him as the caretaker Chief Minister until alternative arrangements are made. The Governor emphasized that no executive decisions should be made during this interim period. Additionally, a notification confirming the acceptance of Siddaramaiah’s resignation and the dissolution of the Council of Ministers has been issued.
R. Prabhu Shankar, Special Secretary to the Governor, communicated the Governor’s decision to Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh. The notification dated May 29 reiterated the acceptance of Siddaramaiah’s resignation and the immediate dissolution of the Council of Ministers. Siddaramaiah, known as a prominent leader of the Congress party, submitted his resignation at Lok Bhavan, marking the end of his tenure as Karnataka’s longest-serving Chief Minister.
