In a proud moment for Karnataka and India, Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot honored three women cricketers from Karnataka for their role in India’s victory at the 1st Women’s T20 World Cup – Cricket for the Blind. The players, Deepika T.C., Kavya V., and Kavya N R., were commended for their outstanding contribution to the historic win, marking a significant milestone in women’s disability sports.
The felicitation ceremony acknowledged the players’ dedication and excellence by awarding each of them a cash prize of ₹51,000. This gesture of appreciation aimed to recognize their hard work, determination, and exceptional sporting abilities. The Governor’s recognition follows widespread national acclaim for the Indian women’s team, including praise from the President, Prime Minister, and various other prominent leaders, highlighting the significance of their achievement.
Dr. Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar, Founder & Trustee of Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled and Chairman of the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI), was also honored during the event. His visionary leadership has been instrumental in promoting blind cricket in India and advocating for the participation and leadership of women in the sport. Under his guidance, CABI successfully hosted the SBI 1st Women’s T20 World Cup – Cricket for the Blind, setting a new global standard for inclusive women’s sports.
Governor Gehlot, a staunch supporter of initiatives for persons with disabilities, has actively championed inclusion, empowerment, and equal opportunities in sports. His continuous engagement has significantly contributed to the advancement of inclusive sports and leadership development, reflecting Karnataka’s commitment to sporting excellence and national unity.
