The Karnataka government has introduced mandatory registration for all homestays in the state, with over 500 owners already applying under the Karnataka Homestay Registration Guidelines-2025. Tourism Department Commissioner V. Ram Prasath Manohar emphasized the need for eligible operators to register promptly through the Department of Tourism.
Tourism and Energy Minister K.J. George expressed satisfaction with the positive response to the new policy, highlighting its potential to boost Karnataka’s tourism industry. Commissioner Manohar noted the initiative’s goal of bringing all homestays under an official regulatory framework to enhance safety, quality, and accountability.
Stakeholders across Karnataka have shown support for the new guidelines, according to Commissioner Manohar. The registration process involves scrutiny by various departments to ensure compliance with infrastructure, safety, cleanliness, and operational standards.
Document verification for nearly 400 applications has been completed, with ongoing physical inspections. Homestays failing to meet the guidelines’ requirements will not receive registration initially but can rectify deficiencies and reapply.
The Tourism Department aims to issue registration certificates within 45 days post-inspections, valid for five years with mandatory renewal. The system seeks to create an official database of homestays in Karnataka, offering government recognition to compliant operators.
