In response to the leadership tussle within the Congress party in Karnataka, Excise Minister R.B. Timmapur stated that it is common for legislators to voice their desires for ministerial roles, emphasizing the party’s internal democratic structure. Timmapur, a close aide of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, addressed concerns raised by Congress MLAs who threatened to approach the party leadership in Delhi if not appointed as ministers.
The minister defended the Congress party’s internal democracy, highlighting that it is natural for MLAs to express their ambitions. He refuted BJP’s accusations of the Congress government engaging in “Muslim appeasement politics” by withdrawing cases related to the Ladle Mashak Dargah clash incident in Kalaburagi. Timmapur dismissed the communal angle attributed to the withdrawal of cases, citing similar actions taken in other contexts, such as against farmers.
Timmapur criticized the BJP for allegedly promoting divisive politics based on religion, contrasting it with the Congress’s inclusive approach. He accused BJP leaders of lacking participation in the country’s freedom struggle and accused them of perpetuating communal divisions for political gain. Expressing concerns over economic issues, Timmapur highlighted the impact of rising fuel and LPG cylinder prices on the public, criticizing the government’s handling of international relations and pricing policies.
