In a surprising turn of events, an inspector from the Karnataka Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is facing allegations of being the mastermind behind a robbery in Bengaluru. The incident took place in the Madivala police station’s jurisdiction, where a group of individuals posing as police officers reportedly stole Rs 20 lakh from Kerala-based businessmen. The accused inspector, identified as Mahesh Kanakagiri, currently serves in the CID and is said to have collaborated with four accomplices – Harris, Kupendra, Shafi, and Shaani – to carry out the robbery.
Investigators revealed that the businessmen from Kerala were residing in a Madivala hotel when the accused devised a plan after gathering information about them and their cash holdings. As part of the scheme, the culprits arrived at the hotel in a police jeep, with Kanakagiri staying inside the vehicle while the others entered the businessmen’s room. Using the inspector’s genuine identity card to establish credibility, the gang accused the businessmen of engaging in illicit trading activities and proceeded to threaten and rob them of Rs 20 lakh.
Following the robbery, the perpetrators fled the scene in the same police jeep parked at the hotel. Subsequently, the businessmen reported the incident to the Madivala police, leading to the arrest of one of the accused, Kupendra. During interrogation, Kupendra implicated Kanakagiri as the brains behind the operation, prompting an expanded investigation to locate the remaining suspects. Despite Kupendra’s capture, the inspector and the other accused individuals have evaded authorities, prompting a search operation by the police.
Law enforcement officials have recovered the alleged getaway vehicle used in the crime and are conducting further inquiries to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy and the roles played by each suspect.
