Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) Chairman Shivshankrappa S. Sahukar has been suspended by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot following allegations of misconduct. The suspension is pending further orders from the President of India. The allegations are related to the recruitment of Sahukar’s two daughters as Industrial Extension Officers.
The Governor has recommended that the matter be referred to the Supreme Court under Article 317(1) of the Indian Constitution for an inquiry. The complaints suggest that Sahukar facilitated the selection of his daughters in an unlawful manner. One daughter allegedly obtained benefits by declaring a lower family income to secure reservation under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category.
It is alleged that the daughter suppressed material facts and obtained undue benefits. The complaint also mentions that children of the Chairman of a Public Service Commission are ineligible for reservation under the Backward Classes quota in Karnataka. The Governor has taken the step to ensure a fair investigation and maintain the credibility of the Karnataka Public Service Commission.
