Karnataka’s Minister for Medical Education, Skill Development, and Livelihood, Sharanprakash R. Patil, revealed a significant boost in medical education by adding 1,122 seats in the state. These additional seats, approved by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, will benefit various districts including Koppal, Gadag, Chamarajanagar, Karwar, and Kaveri. The state is set to receive grants totaling Rs 1,090 crore, with Rs 495 crore allocated for undergraduate seats and ₹541 crore for postgraduate medical seats.
Patil emphasized that this allocation of over 1,000 medical seats to Karnataka is a remarkable achievement, showcasing the state’s commitment to medical education. He urged aspiring students to seize the abundant opportunities now available in the medical field. Expressing dissatisfaction with the recent NEET question paper leak, Patil criticized the Central Government for jeopardizing the dreams of aspiring doctors and advocated for the adoption of Karnataka’s Common Entrance Test (CET) as a superior model nationally.
The Minister highlighted the recurring chaos surrounding NEET and called for accountability, demanding the resignation of the concerned Union Minister over the recent debacle. He expressed skepticism about the ongoing CBI investigation into the scandal, citing concerns about transparency. Patil raised suspicions of orchestrated efforts to facilitate the sale of MBBS seats, attributing the scandal to powerful individuals. Criticizing state BJP leaders for defending the NEET question paper leak, he condemned the party’s alleged history of exploiting youth through scandals.
