Authorities in the Kashmir Valley have extended preventive restrictions for a second day, prompting the Jammu and Kashmir Police to appeal for peace. The police emphasized that violence leads to destruction and hardship, urging the public to maintain calm and avoid disruptive activities. Recent incidents of rioting and clashes have been deemed unacceptable by the police, who warned against violence and confrontation with security forces.
All educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities, will remain closed, with the University of Kashmir postponing all exams. Measures such as reducing mobile internet speed and deploying additional security forces have been implemented to prevent unrest. Srinagar’s Lal Chowk has been barricaded, and access to sensitive areas has been restricted.
Senior Shia leader Molvi Imran Ansari also called for peace and discipline while mourning the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Ansari urged the public to express their grief respectfully and avoid unlawful activities. He emphasized the importance of dignified mourning and condemned any misconduct, urging for peaceful protests and demonstrations within the boundaries of the law.
