KEM Hospital has started an internal investigation following the uproar caused by final-year MBBS student Sejal Pawar’s comments at a comedy show. The inquiry committee aims to address the disrespectful remarks made by Pawar about male cadavers during the show hosted by comedian Pranit More. The controversy arose after a short video clip of the show went viral on social media, leading to widespread criticism and even a police case.
The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) expressed concern over the online backlash faced by Dr. Sejal Pawar, highlighting the need to distinguish between criticism and personal attacks. The institute formed a two-member panel, including Dr. Anita Chalak and Dr. Shraddha More, to investigate the incident further. The panel is reviewing the show’s footage to determine whether Pawar’s comments were made inappropriately or as part of a misguided attempt at humor.
Medical professionals emphasize the importance of respecting deceased bodies, citing existing social media guidelines set by the National Medical Commission. The inquiry team is expected to present its findings to the Dean of KEM Hospital, potentially leading to disciplinary actions against the student. Dr. Sejal Pawar has expressed remorse for her remarks, clarifying that she never intended to show disrespect towards cadavers meant for research purposes.
