The Munambam land dispute in Kerala has intensified as Kerala BJP chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar has raised concerns with Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. Chandrasekhar highlighted the registration of over 400 acres of land on the UMEED portal by the Waqf Board without following proper procedures. He urged the Centre to address this issue promptly to resolve residents’ grievances.
Chandrasekhar’s move follows Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan’s assurance that residents affected by the dispute would not face eviction. The controversy surrounding the ownership of land in Munambam has become a contentious issue, leading to the BJP criticizing the LDF government for alleged negligence towards local residents.
In a letter to Rijiju, Chandrasekhar emphasized the need for the Centre to intervene and remove illegally uploaded properties from the UMEED portal. He pointed out discrepancies in the registration process, alleging that the Waqf Board had acted beyond its authority. Chandrasekhar also accused the UDF of engaging in vote-bank politics and pressuring minority groups in the matter.
Kerala State Waqf Board chairman K S Hamza defended the registration of the disputed land on the UMEED portal, stating it was a Waqf property. The situation remains tense as stakeholders continue to grapple with the complexities of the Munambam land dispute.
