Kerala BJP has criticized both the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and United Democratic Front (UDF) for the severe financial crisis in the state. The party alleges that successive governments have failed to address structural issues in the economy despite releasing White Papers on the fiscal situation. BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar stated that Kerala’s economic weakness is a result of a decade of financial mismanagement under the LDF government and the failure of both political fronts to offer long-term solutions.
BJP Legislature Party leader B.B. Gopakumar highlighted the trend of governments publishing White Papers on the financial crisis upon assuming power, with the opposition consistently disputing the findings. Gopakumar emphasized the critical nature of the current financial situation, warning that it could have long-term repercussions for the state.
Gopakumar raised concerns over the heavy expenditure on salaries, pensions, and interest payments, leaving minimal resources for development activities. He questioned the feasibility of implementing policy statement projects with such limited funds, urging the government to reveal Kerala’s total public debt, including KIIFB liabilities.
Kerala BJP leaders criticized the ongoing political debate surrounding the White Paper, stressing the importance of focusing on factual content rather than its political implications. They pointed out a decline in capital investment over the years, citing a decrease from around 1.48% during the previous UDF government to 1.30% currently.
