Kerala BJP leader and MLA V. Muraleedharan criticized Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan for condemning three Vice Chancellors who attended an RSS event addressed by Mohan Bhagwat. Satheesan had demanded apologies from the Vice Chancellors for their participation, calling it a breach of Kerala’s educational norms. Muraleedharan accused the government of intimidating academics for attending a lawful public event organized by the RSS.
The BJP leader emphasized that the government should handle any alleged violations through legal channels rather than resorting to public criticism. Muraleedharan argued that targeting Vice Chancellors for attending an RSS program was unwarranted and could create fear among individuals. He also alleged that the controversy was politically motivated to appease groups opposed to the RSS.
The dispute arose after the Vice Chancellors attended an RSS centenary event in Thiruvananthapuram, where Mohan Bhagwat spoke. Chief Minister Satheesan criticized their participation, stating it was inappropriate for academic leaders to attend an RSS function. He urged the Vice Chancellors to apologize to the people of Kerala for their involvement, sparking a political clash in the state.
