Kerala’s Director General of Police, Ravada Chandrasekhar, addressed the case involving the alleged attack on Health Minister Veena George. A case of attempted murder has been registered against KSU activists who protested against the Minister. The DGP stated that the investigation will determine the final charges in the case.
The DGP mentioned that a detailed inquiry will be conducted to ascertain the charges, with the attempt to murder charge being based on preliminary information. He assured that further clarity on the specific sections applied would be revealed through a comprehensive probe. The investigation into the alleged attack is said to be progressing, as per the DGP’s statement.
Despite the police defending their actions, doubts arose due to the lack of visual evidence showing a direct attack on the Minister. Questions were raised about her whereabouts when it was discovered that she had not arrived at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital as communicated earlier. It was later confirmed that George had returned to her residence in Pathanamthitta.
The absence of concrete proof of the severity of her injuries led to skepticism on social media, with no images showing any protester physically approaching her. The incident has put the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) led Left government on the defensive. Critics have highlighted confusion caused by the Minister’s office in official communications, allowing speculation to grow.
Political observers have noted the CPI-M’s internal dynamics, where party members hold significant sway. George’s private secretary, closely associated with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, is part of the powerful State Committee, while the Minister herself has a less influential role. What initially was a law and order issue has now turned into a discussion on transparency, credibility, and political perceptions, leading to unexpected challenges for the government.
