In a significant development, the Kerala state government has established a four-member expert committee to evaluate an alternative high-speed rail corridor suggested by Metro Man E. Sreedharan. This decision comes after detailed discussions between Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan and Sreedharan on May 29 at the Secretariat.
The committee, led by Transport (Railways) Secretary T. V. Anupama, comprises railway expert J. Vinayan, finance expert C. Veeramani, and environmental expert Sridhar Radhakrishnan. N.S. K. Umesh, Officer on Special Duty to the Kerala Chief Minister, will support the committee in its operations.
This move gains significance as the UDF government is actively considering Sreedharan’s proposal as an alternative to the controversial SilverLine semi-high-speed rail project initiated by the previous Pinarayi Vijayan administration.
