The Kerala government, led by Chief Minister Satheesan, has instructed all department heads to inform the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) about job vacancies within three weeks. Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action. This directive applies to government departments and Public Sector Undertakings to address concerns about transparency in recruitment due to delays in reporting vacancies.
This move is viewed as an initial step by the government to enhance confidence in the recruitment process. Following recent allegations of irregularities in the PSC’s selection procedures, the government initiated an internal vigilance probe. Youth Affairs Minister O.J. Jeneesh hinted at a potential broader investigation into recent recruitments due to dissatisfaction with the progress of the current enquiry.
The current PSC, established during the tenure of the previous government, has faced criticism, with five vacant positions. Recent controversy surrounds the Research Officer examination for the Department of Economics and Statistics, where candidates allege irregularities in the test and question the fairness of the recruitment process. Requests for exam cancellation and a fresh test have been made to the Chief Minister, adding to the scrutiny on the PSC’s operations under the new administration.
