The Kerala High Court has given the Special Investigation Team (SIT) an additional two weeks to conclude the investigation into the alleged misappropriation of gold from the Sabarimala temple. This extension was approved due to ongoing scientific examinations related to the case. The SIT highlighted that the delay is primarily due to awaiting a scientific analysis report from the National Metallurgical Laboratory in Jamshedpur.
The SIT informed the court that the laboratory is conducting specialized tests such as X-ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy and Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry to determine the composition and profiling of the samples. The final report from the laboratory is anticipated within the next ten days. The investigators emphasized the importance of these scientific reports in determining the extent of gold plating and any potential substitution of copper plates.
According to the report submitted to the court, 391 witnesses have been questioned and their statements recorded. Additionally, a detailed mahazar outlining the various processes involved in the case has been prepared by the investigators. The entire procedure, including cleaning, buffing, gold plating, and packing, has been recorded for investigation purposes.
The High Court stressed the significance of the scientific reports in establishing accountability and making informed decisions. The court highlighted that the registration of new cases and identification of additional suspects will be based on the findings of the analysis. The next hearing on this matter is scheduled for June 8.
