The Kerala High Court expressed strong support for the Special Investigation Team (SIT) handling the Sabarimala gold theft case, affirming that the investigation is on the right track and ensuring that none of the accused will evade justice. The court, which initiated the SIT probe and selected the investigating team, emphasized its close supervision over the entire process.
In response to petitions seeking a CBI investigation, the court made key observations, urging the petitioners to allow the SIT more time to continue its work. The High Court dismissed concerns raised by BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar and other organizations, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, who had requested a transfer of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation due to its seriousness.
Describing the Sabarimala gold smuggling case as intricate and exceptional, the court highlighted the SIT’s meticulous examination of multiple layers of transactions and individuals involved. The judges clarified that granting statutory bail after the mandatory 90-day period does not compromise the prosecution’s case or enable the accused to evade accountability.
The court’s assurance that no accused will escape justice has been reinforced, with three out of the 13 arrested individuals already securing bail, and the rest expected to follow suit. Every aspect of the investigation is under the court’s thorough scrutiny, ensuring no room for negligence or external interference.
Emphasizing the importance of allowing investigators sufficient time to uncover the full scope of the alleged crime, the bench stressed the need for judicial patience in such complex cases. The High Court’s unwavering support for the SIT is seen as a significant morale boost for the agency, particularly amidst political pressures and protests within the State Assembly questioning the probe’s credibility and pace.
