Kerala is on high alert as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has cautioned about extremely heavy rainfall in certain regions of the state in the coming days. Reports have already emerged of damage to buildings and properties due to adverse weather conditions. The IMD has issued a red alert for Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod, with predictions of rainfall exceeding 204.4 mm within 24 hours.
The Weather Department has also issued an orange alert for several districts, indicating the likelihood of very heavy rainfall. Rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm in 24 hours is classified as very heavy by the IMD. Various districts are under yellow alerts over the next five days to prepare for possible heavy rainfall.
The IMD has cautioned about thunderstorms and heavy showers that could lead to flash floods, landslides, and mudslides, especially in hilly areas. Urban and low-lying areas may experience waterlogging if the heavy rainfall persists. Authorities advise the public and government agencies to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions in vulnerable areas due to the unpredictable weather conditions.
