Kerala’s Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan criticized Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for the arrest of senior Congress leader N. Subramanian. Satheesan condemned the police’s actions as reminiscent of an “autocratic ruler,” expressing concerns about a growing atmosphere of fear in Kerala. He highlighted alleged selective law enforcement by the government, pointing out disparities in handling social media offenses.
Satheesan accused the government of targeting opposition leaders swiftly for social media posts while overlooking complaints against cyber campaigns linked to the CPI-M. He criticized the CPI-M for alleged abusive use of AI tools, questioning whether those responsible for such actions would face arrest. Satheesan directly criticized Vijayan for what he perceived as leniency towards CPI-M leaders convicted of serious crimes, contrasting it with the arrest of law-abiding citizens from their homes.
The Opposition leader dismissed claims that the circulated image could incite unrest, labeling such arguments as absurd. He warned against attempts to intimidate the Opposition, asserting that the Congress and the UDF would not back down. Satheesan also cautioned the ruling front about growing public discontent and predicted a stronger voter response in 2026.
